The Need: Oppositional Defiant Disorder and other defiant behaviors in young people are tremendous concerns today.  Although there are many books and articles on the topic, there's a need for something that  brings all this information together and up-to-date in a form that is comprehensive, affordable and easy to understand and implement.

Addressing the Need: What Parents Need to Know About ODD addresses this need using an approach that makes sense: two audio CDs and a workbook. At home or in the car, a parent can gain an in-depth understanding of oppositional and defiant behavior, strategies for dealing with it, and suggestions for enlisting the support of child serviced professionals. Topics covered in the program include:

bullet

What ODD is and what seems to cause it.

bullet

How behavior communicates (and how our typical reactions often "feed" the problem).

bullet

Which approaches to intervention are most effective ...  and why.

bullet

How to improve performance at school.

bullet

What to do if behavior gets tougher.

The Program:  The two CDs are over two hours and 20 minutes in length with 13 tracks. It's easy for a busy parent to listen to just one or two tracks as time permits. And, since the program is on compact disk, it's a simple matter to replay any track immediately. The accompanying 64-page manual is professionally prepared, offering supportive information, models and illustrations.

The Author/Narrator:  Dr. James Sutton has almost 30 year of experience working with, and writing and training about, youngsters with emotional and behavioral difficulties. He has studied and incorporated the contributions of leaders and experts on ODD and other defiant behaviors into this program. A nice bonus is Dr. Sutton's expertise and ease behind the microphone. While a college student, he was a staff announcer for a CBS radio affiliate.
